Brighton Thrash Arsenal 3-0 At Amex Stadium.

Arsenal suffered their first defeat of the season after Brighton produced a dominant display to secure a 3-0 victory at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton started brightly following impressive wins over Coventry City and Manchester United, putting Arsenal under pressure from the opening stages.

The hosts were rewarded for their strong start in the 31st minute when Pascal Gross opened the scoring. The midfielder collected the ball on the edge of the box before his effort took a deflection off the post and found the back of the net.

Arsenal, who had won their previous nine league matches and all seven of their games in all competitions this season, struggled to impose themselves as Brighton’s intensity unsettled Mikel Arteta’s side.

The visitors came close to an equaliser shortly before the break when Bukayo Saka found himself in the area after Martin Odegaard’s effort was deflected, but the England international failed to convert.

Brighton immediately punished the missed opportunity.

Just seconds later, Charalampos Kostoulas found space on the edge of the Arsenal box, turned and fired beyond David Raya to double the hosts’ advantage before half-time.

Arteta made no changes at the interval as he looked for a response from his players, but Arsenal were unable to turn the game around.

Brighton extended their lead 12 minutes into the second half when Chema Andres headed home from another Gross corner to make it 3-0.

The result capped a remarkable attacking week for Brighton, who have now scored 11 goals across their last three matches following a five-goal victory over Coventry and a 3-2 comeback win against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.

The Seagulls almost added a fourth when defender Pascal Struijk, making his first Premier League start since joining Brighton from Leeds in the summer, headed wide from a corner under pressure.

Arsenal had a late chance to reduce the deficit when Kai Havertz raced through on goal, but his effort went straight at Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.

Raya then denied Matt O’Riley at the other end as Brighton continued to threaten until the final whistle.

The defeat leaves Arsenal second in the Premier League on goal difference, having played one more match than Manchester City, who host Sunderland on Sunday.

Brighton, meanwhile, climb to third and move to within two points of the leaders.
