Kwara CP Begins Unannounced Inspection of Police Formations

The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi, has commenced an unannounced inspection of police divisions and formations across the state to assess operational readiness and address security challenges confronting personnel.

A statement on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the inspection tour began on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, with the CP visiting the Area Command, Metro, Ilorin, and 12 divisional headquarters within the Ilorin metropolis.

According to the statement, the exercise is aimed at assessing the “professional disposition, commitment and operational readiness” of officers, as well as inspecting their working conditions and identifying capability gaps across the command.

During the visits, Adekimi interacted with personnel, reviewed security arrangements and issued directives aimed at improving operational effectiveness and public safety.

The commissioner placed particular emphasis on security at police formations, directing station guards to remain vigilant and responsive.

He stressed that station guards serve as the “first line of defence and security for every Police facility” and must therefore remain alert at all times.

Adekimi also reiterated the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, which is anchored on accountability, professionalism, intelligence-led policing and community policing.

The CP charged officers to adopt proactive approaches to crime prevention and remain disciplined, vigilant and responsive to the security needs of their communities.

He further warned against misconduct, corruption and extortion, stressing that the command would maintain a zero-tolerance stance towards unethical practices.

According to him, officers found culpable, as well as beneficiaries or end-users of corrupt practices, would face disciplinary and legal action in accordance with extant laws.

The commissioner said the inspection would continue across other divisions, formations and operational locations in the state without prior notice.

He explained that the unannounced nature of the exercise was deliberate, as it would enable the command to obtain an objective assessment of personnel conduct, discipline, operational preparedness and compliance with established standards.

Adekimi consequently directed all officers to remain at their duty posts and maintain constant operational readiness.

He assured residents that the command remained committed to proactive policing, effective crime prevention and the protection of lives and property across Kwara State.
