Enugu Police Arrest Three Over Robbery, Cultism

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested three men suspected of armed robbery and cultism in separate operations across the state.

The command said the operations also led to the recovery of two firearms, 15 live rounds of ammunition, multiple ATM cards and other exhibits.

Police spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said one of the suspects, 30-year-old Goodluck Hyacinth, was arrested during a stop-and-search operation at First Bus Stop, Abakpa, Enugu, on August 23.
He said seven rounds of 9mm live ammunition were recovered from Hyacinth, who was travelling in a commercial tricycle.

Ndukwe added that police operatives raided a suspected criminal hideout at Akpaoga-Nike, Enugu East Local Government Area, at about 3am on August 24, following credible intelligence.

According to him, the suspects fled on sighting the police, abandoning an imitation firearm and several ATM cards, which were recovered.

In a separate operation on August 17, police operatives attached to the Department of Operations intercepted a commercial tricycle carrying four young men along Lagos Street by Winners Junction, Ogui, Enugu.

Two of the passengers escaped, while 24-year-old Okeke Stephen Chidera and 22-year-old Ofefe Mathew Chukwuemeka were arrested.

Police recovered a cut-to-size firearm and eight live cartridges from the suspects, who allegedly confessed to being members of the Neo Black Movement (NBM) cult group.

The command said efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects, while those in custody would be arraigned after investigations.

Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the operatives for their vigilance and proactive response, assuring residents that the command would continue to clamp down on criminal elements in the state.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information on suspicious persons and criminal activities.
