Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Argentina international goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa on a three-year contract.
The Premier League club announced the deal on its official website on Sunday, confirming the arrival of the 33-year-old World Cup winner as part of their goalkeeping options.
Martinez expressed his excitement at joining Chelsea and said he was eager to begin his new chapter at Stamford Bridge.
“I’m delighted to be at this football club,” Martinez said. “Coming to Chelsea, for me and my family, was an easy decision to make and I’m just over the moon – I can’t wait to get started.”
“I want to be successful here. I’m someone who wants to win at everything I do and I want to bring that here to this football club because it’s a football club that wins titles, so I think it’s a good match.”
“I’m all passion and I play with my heart. I will give 100 per cent every game, every training session to make the club, my teammates and the supporters proud.”

Martinez began his professional journey in the youth ranks of Independiente before moving to Arsenal in August 2010 at the age of 17.
He spent several seasons on loan gaining first-team experience before establishing himself in Arsenal’s senior side during the 2019/20 campaign. He started the club’s final 11 matches of that season and helped them win the FA Cup.
He also featured in Arsenal’s Community Shield triumph at the beginning of the following season before joining Aston Villa in September 2020.
The goalkeeper went on to become one of the Premier League’s leading goalkeepers during his six-year spell at Villa, making 256 appearances and helping the club win the UEFA Europa League in May.
At international level, Martinez made his Argentina debut in June 2021 and has since become the national team’s first-choice goalkeeper, winning 67 caps.
He has won the Copa America twice, in 2021 and 2024, as well as the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Argentina.
His performances for La Albiceleste earned him the Yashin Trophy, awarded to the world’s best goalkeeper, at the 2023 and 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremonies.
