BREAKING: Adeleke Challenges EFCC Over Freezing of Osun Government Account, Heads to Court

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has publicly challenged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the freezing of the state’s First Bank account, demanding that the agency’s Chairman explain the legal basis for the action.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday, Governor Adeleke described the development as unlawful, insisting that while the EFCC has the constitutional authority to investigate government accounts, it cannot freeze a state’s account without first obtaining a valid court order.
The governor maintained that the action has the potential to disrupt governance and the delivery of essential public services across the state.
According to the Osun State Government, it has commenced legal steps to challenge the decision, with plans to approach the Federal High Court to seek the immediate reversal of the account freeze.
The government argued that due process must be followed in all investigations involving public institutions, stressing that no agency has the power to unilaterally freeze a state government’s bank account without judicial authorization.
The development comes amid growing political tension in Osun State, just days ahead of the state’s governorship election, and is expected to generate significant legal and political debate in the coming days.
