Aggressive Cancer Killed King Oyo At 34 – Ugandan President, Museveni

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has disclosed that aggressive cancer caused the death of the King of Tooro, His Highness Oyo, who died at the age of 34.

Museveni disclosed this in a statement posted on his X handle on Saturday, August 29, while expressing condolences to the royal family and the people of Tooro over the monarch’s death.

The Ugandan leader said the government had supported the late king’s family in seeking medical treatment abroad after it was informed that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.

“Some months back, Her Royal Highness Kemigisa, Nyinomukama, came to tell me that the Muzzukulu Oyo had cancer that was very aggressive,” Museveni said.

According to him, the government facilitated the monarch’s treatment in Germany and later the United States, where he eventually died.

“The Government supported them to go to Germany and, then, the USA where he died,” he said.

Museveni described the death of the monarch at 34 as a major loss to Tooro Kingdom and Uganda, noting that Oyo had demonstrated potential to contribute to the development of the kingdom.

“What a loss to Tooro and Uganda,” the President said.

He also described Oyo’s life as marked by significant hardship, noting that the monarch lost his parents at a young age before eventually ascending the throne.

“How unfair life can be!! He was orphaned while still young and he has died young,” Museveni said.

The Ugandan President said Oyo had shown, despite his short life, that he could work effectively with both central and local governments to advance development in Tooro.

“In the short life on earth, he had shown that he had potential of working well with the Central and Local Governments to develop Tooro,” he said.

Museveni offered his condolences on behalf of himself, his wife, Janet Museveni, and the people of Uganda to the royal family and residents of Tooro.

He described Oyo as a “prominent Muzzukulu” and lamented his death at such a young age.

TVC News had yesterday reported that King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who became the world’s youngest reigning monarch after ascending the throne at the age of three, has died at 34.

The death of the Omukama of Tooro, a traditional kingdom in western Uganda, was announced by the kingdom’s Prime Minister, Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, in a post on X late Thursday.
