WAFCON 2026: Super Falcons suffer shock 3-2 defeat to Malawi

The Super Falcons began the defence of their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON, title, with a shock 3-2 defeat to Malawi on Tuesday night.
The Chawinga sisters put up a stunning display against the 10-time champions in their opening Group C fixture.
Temwa Chawinga opened the scoring in the 73rd minute, before Tabitha Chawinga doubled their lead six minutes later.
Rasheedat Ajibade pulled one back for Nigeria, calmly converting from the penalty spot in stoppage time.
Temwa extended the debutants’ lead again, before Uchenna Kanu reduced the deficit in the 99th minute of the match.
Zambia are top of the group, thanks to their 6-0 drubbing of Egypt.
The Falcons sit in third place behind Malawi.
