Transfer: ‘It’s your job to find correct players’ – Desailly slams Alonso for signing France star
Chelsea legend, Marcel Desailly, has said that France international, Max Lacroix is not an ideal signing for the club, insisting that the team should aim for superior players from clubs that are more accomplished than the Blues.
In an interview with BOYLE Sports, Desailly conveyed his uncertainty regarding Lacroix’s ability to enhance the Blues’ squad at this moment, emphasizing the necessity for a defender possessing greater experience and leadership qualities, stating:
“Is he truly what Chelsea requires? I genuinely believe they need a centre-back with more experience, someone who is already established and can step in to lead the defense.
“We need a seasoned leader at the core of our defense. Don’t ask me for a name; it is Alonso and the club’s job to find the right player who aligns with his philosophy.
“While it may be a beneficial move for Lacroix, I sincerely hope they pursue a player who has competed at an elite level for a club of similar stature to Chelsea, facing comparable pressures, rather than someone from a club smaller than Chelsea.”
Desailly acknowledged that the Frenchman performed well for Crystal Palace. However, he expressed doubts about Lacroix’s potential success at Stamford Bridge, fearing he may not meet expectations.
“I believed Lacroix excelled for Crystal Palace last season in a back three, but playing for Palace and Chelsea are two distinct challenges.
“I didn’t think he performed well for France. I mentioned to my friends that I would be curious to see how he fares in a back four, as I have only observed him in a three.
“He had a subpar performance against Spain and I didn’t think he was impressive against England either, where they conceded six goals. He could fit into the team, but I am eager to see how Alonso organizes us,” he stated.
Lacroix is currently enjoying a vacation following his time with the French national team.
