Sanwo-Olu Congratulates Obafemi Hamzat on Lagos APC Governorship Ticket
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has congratulated his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, following his emergence as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Hamzat secured the party’s ticket after the APC governorship primary, positioning him as the party’s flagbearer for the upcoming gubernatorial election in Lagos State. His emergence marks a significant development within the ruling party as political activities intensify ahead of the polls.
In a congratulatory message, Sanwo-Olu described Hamzat’s victory as well deserved, praising his dedication, loyalty, and years of service to Lagos State and the APC. The governor expressed confidence in Hamzat’s leadership abilities and his capacity to sustain the developmental agenda of the current administration.
Sanwo-Olu said Hamzat has consistently demonstrated competence and commitment in governance, noting that his experience in public service would serve the state well if elected governor. He urged party members and supporters to remain united and work together to ensure victory for the APC in the election.
The governor also commended delegates and party stakeholders for conducting what he described as a peaceful and democratic primary process. He stressed the importance of unity within the APC, calling on all aspirants and their supporters to rally behind the party’s candidate.
Hamzat, who currently serves as deputy governor, has been a prominent figure in Lagos politics for several years. Before becoming deputy governor, he held various positions in government and played key roles in policy and infrastructure development within the state.
Following his emergence, supporters gathered at various locations in Lagos to celebrate the outcome of the primary. Many party loyalists described Hamzat as experienced and capable of continuing the state’s development agenda, particularly in areas such as transportation, education, housing, and technology-driven governance.
Political observers say Hamzat’s candidacy is likely to shape the political landscape in Lagos ahead of the governorship election, with opposition parties expected to intensify their campaigns in response. Analysts also note that continuity, urban development, and economic management are expected to dominate campaign discussions in the state.
The APC remains one of the dominant political parties in Lagos, having governed the state since the return of democratic rule in 1999. Hamzat’s emergence is seen as part of the party’s broader strategy to maintain its hold on the state while projecting continuity in governance and policy implementation.
