Morayo Afolabi-Brown Speaks Out After Receiving Threatening Call Over Interview Questions

Television host and media personality Morayo Afolabi-Brown has revealed that she was left shaken after receiving a disturbing phone call from a woman who allegedly showered her with curses over the questions she asks guests during interviews.

Speaking in a video shared on her Instagram page on Friday, the host of The Morayo Show said the caller used abusive language and repeatedly cursed her because of her interviewing style.

According to Afolabi-Brown, the incident was particularly upsetting because she was simply carrying out her responsibilities as a journalist.

The veteran broadcaster explained that while she has endured criticism on social media over the years, receiving such a hostile phone call felt different because the person had direct access to her personal number.

“I’ve been dragged on social media for many years for different reasons, but I don’t read those messages because that’s not my thing. But for someone to have my phone number and call me just to rain curses on me… what exactly is my offence? Is it the questions I ask guests or the names I call during interviews?” she asked.

Afolabi-Brown noted that some of the backlash followed recent interviews in which she posed probing questions to guests, including one about a person’s experience at a funeral.

Defending her approach, she said her more than two decades in the media industry have earned her the right to ask difficult questions.

“I’ve been in the media for 21 years and on television every weekday for the past 12 years. There are only a handful of Nigerians with that kind of experience. If anyone has earned the right to ask tough questions, I have,” she said.

She added that she would maintain the same approach regardless of who she interviews, even if the guest were a global political figure.

“If Donald Trump comes here tomorrow, I will ask him whatever I want to ask him,” she stated.

The TV presenter also stressed that she respects the preferences of her guests. According to her, some receive interview questions in advance, while others simply indicate topics they would rather avoid.

“I respect my guests. Some of them get the questions beforehand, while others only tell me the areas they don’t want to discuss. My show is not designed to criticise or embarrass people. It’s a platform built on love and joy,” she explained.

Expressing disappointment over the incident, Afolabi-Brown maintained that asking questions is the core responsibility of every interviewer.

“It’s quite disheartening for someone to call me and rain curses on me simply because I asked a question. Asking questions is my job,” she said.

Her remarks come amid public discussions generated by some of her recent celebrity interviews, including veteran actress Ireti Doyle, who declined to discuss her divorce during an appearance on The Morayo Show, insisting the matter was “none of your business.”

She has also drawn attention for questions posed to actress Toyin Abraham about her reported rift with Funke Akindele, as well as during an interview with former **Babatunde Fashola>.
