‘I Will Abolish JAMB, Scrap NYSC If I Become President’ – Sowore
The 2027 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has revealed plans to abolish the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) if he becomes the President of Nigeria.
NEWSNGR reports that Sowore, in a post on his 𝕏 handle, said admissions should be determined by institutions of higher learning through a transparent, merit-based system, not by another layer of bureaucracy.
Sowore also vowed to scrap the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), adding that he would establish a two-year voluntary National Job Corps in its place.
He said: “When I become President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria: @JAMBHQ will be abolished.
“Admission into tertiary institutions should be determined by the institutions themselves under a transparent, merit-based system, not by another layer of bureaucracy.
“The National Youth Service Corps @nysc_ng, in its current form, will be scrapped. In its place, we will establish a two-year, voluntary National Job Corps that guarantees participants meaningful employment, practical skills, entrepreneurship support, and pathways into permanent careers.
“Nigeria’s young people do not need more compulsory schemes. They need opportunities, jobs, skills, and the freedom to choose their future.”
Meanwhile, Sowore has alleged that more than 1,158 inmates, including 37 prisoners undergoing treatment for tuberculosis, are currently being held in overcrowded cells at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja.
Sowore made the revelation on Wednesday, July 1, 2027, while recounting his experience after regaining his freedom from the facility where he was detained in connection with a case instituted against him by the Department of State Services.
The activist had been remanded last week by Justice Muhammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja after proceedings in a case linked to his statement describing President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal.”
He was, however, granted bail on Tuesday after spending more than a week in custody.
In a statement personally released after his freedom, Sowore condemned what he described as the misuse of state institutions to suppress dissent and intimidate government critics.
