“God told me to send you money” — Man left confused after woman demanded ₦5,000 back there minutes later
A man has sparked a lively debate on social media after recounting an unusual experience involving a ₦5,000 bank transfer that was mistakenly sent to his account.
The incident has drawn mixed reactions, with many Nigerians debating which of the sender’s messages should have been believed.
According to the man, a woman accidentally transferred ₦5,000 to him earlier in the day.
Acting in good faith, he immediately contacted her to notify her about the unexpected payment.
Instead of requesting a refund, the woman reportedly responded by telling him to keep the money, leaving him surprised by her unexpected generosity.
Woman’s second message changes the situation
The man said the situation took a different turn just three minutes later when another message arrived from the same sender.
Sharing the exchange online, he wrote, “Keep it. God told me to.”
He added that moments later, the woman sent another message saying, “I’m so sorry, I sent it to the wrong person. Please send it back.”
The conflicting responses prompted the man to ask social media users a humorous question: “At that point, Who was I supposed to believe, the first message or the second one?”
Social media users weigh in
The post quickly attracted reactions from users, many of whom joked about the confusion while others argued that returning the money remained the right thing to do regardless of the mixed messages.
Some commenters suggested the first message may have been sent in error or before the woman realised she had transferred the money to the wrong recipient, while others found humour in the contradiction and debated how they would have responded in the same situation.
The light-hearted story has continued to circulate online, with many Nigerians sharing their opinions on honesty, mistaken transfers and the humorous dilemma created by the woman’s two conflicting messages.
