El-Rufai Granted Bail Conditions That Are Not Viable – Wife

Asiya El-Rufai, wife of detained former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged that her husband was granted bail under conditions that are not viable.
NEWSNGR reports that she raised the alarm on Wednesday during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time.
According to her, the Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna granted El-Rufai bail with two sureties of ₦200 million each, properties worth ₦200 million in GRA, Kaduna, and attestation from the Kaduna State Traditional Council.
Asiya said efforts to meet the bail conditions had proved impossible because the traditional council declined to provide the required attestation.
She said, “The fundamental rights of individuals are guaranteed by section four of the Constitution. It guarantees the right to life, the right to health and the right to interactions.
“Now, Mallam has been accused of offences in different courts, and those charges are clearly bailable offences under the Nigerian law. He has applied for bail several times in the High Court. He was denied bail.
“In the Federal High Court, he was granted bail with terms that are not viable. In the Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna, the judge granted him bail for two shorties, ₦200 million each, with property worth ₦200 million in GRA, Kaduna.
“The judge also said that the traditional council of Kaduna State must give attestation. Now, efforts to get this have become impossible. The traditional council would not give that attestation.
“I don’t want to speculate. They gave no reason directly. They just said that they’re not able to do it.”
She argued that her husband’s rights, including his rights to life, health, and interaction, were constitutionally protected.
Asiya maintained that the offences for which El-Rufai was charged were bailable under Nigerian law, adding that the bail conditions imposed by the court had made it difficult for him to regain freedom.
