Bayelsa East PDP Zones 2027 Senatorial Ticket to Brass Constituency II, 2031 Ticket to Nembe Constituency II
Leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa East Senatorial District have resolved to zone the party’s 2027 senatorial ticket to Brass Constituency II and the 2031 ticket to Nembe Constituency II for a single four-year term each.
The decision was reached during a strategic meeting involving PDP leaders and stakeholders from Ogbia, Nembe, and Brass Local Government Areas. The meeting was held at the Yenagoa residence of the Bayelsa State PDP Chairman, Hon. Barr. Alabh George Turnah, MON, and was presided over by the Bayelsa East Senatorial District Vice Chairman of the party, Hon. Andy West Majors.
According to the stakeholders, the arrangement was adopted to promote justice, fairness, political inclusion, and balanced representation within the senatorial district. They stated that the zoning decision would ensure that all state constituencies within Bayelsa East would have produced a senator under the rotational system by 2031.
Party leaders explained that the senatorial seat rotation in the district has followed a consistent pattern since 1999. They described the process as stable and orderly, noting that it has contributed to political harmony within the district over the years.
They recalled that the rotation began with Senator Melford Okilo from Ogbia Constituency I. The seat later moved to Brass Constituency I, represented by Senator Inatimi Spiff, before shifting to Nembe Constituency I under Senator Nimi Barigha Amange.
According to the stakeholders, the rotation later returned to Ogbia through Senator Clever Ikisikpo of Ogbia Constituency III. The seat subsequently moved to Brass Constituency III with Senator Ben Murray-Bruce and later to Nembe Constituency III, represented by Senator Degi Ereminyo.
The current senator representing Bayelsa East, Senator Benson Agadaga, is from Ogbia Constituency II. Stakeholders maintained that based on the existing rotational arrangement and the principle of equity, the next senatorial candidate of the PDP should emerge from Brass Constituency II in 2027.
They also resolved that Nembe Constituency II should produce the party’s senatorial candidate in 2031, completing what they described as a fair and balanced political sequence across the district.
The stakeholders further announced that beginning from 2035, the PDP senatorial ticket in Bayelsa East would no longer be subjected to zoning or rotational arrangements. They said future candidates would instead emerge based on competence, performance, leadership capacity, and ability to provide effective representation for the people.
According to the leaders, the decision marks the beginning of a new political direction within the district, where merit and quality representation would become the major considerations for leadership positions after all constituencies have had the opportunity to occupy the seat.
They noted that the move was intended to strengthen unity within the PDP and sustain peace among the various political blocs in Bayelsa East. The stakeholders also expressed confidence that the arrangement would encourage broader participation and reduce political tensions associated with contesting for the senatorial position.
The meeting also reaffirmed support for the leadership of the Bayelsa State PDP under Hon. Barr. Alabh George Turnah, MON. The stakeholders commended him for promoting inclusiveness, political stability, and what they described as purposeful leadership within the party across the state.
The resolutions were contained in a statement signed by Kelvin Loveday-Egbo, Media Assistant to the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Bayelsa State, and dated May 19, 2026.
