They Say I Always Chicken Out, They’re Correct – Peter Obi Defends Leaving Parties Over Crisis
Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Peter Obi has responded to criticism over his past exits from political parties.
NEWSNGR reports that he spoke during a recent interview with broadcast journalist Rufai Oseni.
During the interview, Oseni questioned claims that Obi often avoids political pressure, linking it to his exits from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Labour Party.
In his response, Obi said people are right to think that way, adding that when a person senses danger or instability in a situation, leaving can be a way of avoiding greater problems.
The former Anambra Governor further explained that the current political climate is harsh on opposition figures, and said that political groups he previously worked with should see his decisions as early awareness of growing challenges rather than weakness.
He said: “People say I always chicken out. They’re correct. When people put fire in your house, you don’t stay. You know what the government of today is doing to opposition, those parties should actually thank me for anticipating the problem and walking away from it.”
In other news, Peter Obi has vowed that he is ready to die for the country.
He stated that one person must be in charge of addressing the country’s security challenges.
