Oritsejafor Advises Tinubu Against Seeking Re-election In 2027, Says President Has Failed Nigerians
Former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ayo Oritsejafor, has advised President Bola Tinubu against seeking another term in the 2027 presidential election, alleging that his administration has failed to deliver the expected results for Nigerians.
Oritsejafor made the remarks during an interview with Channels Television, where he expressed concerns over the country’s economic difficulties, insecurity, and general direction under the current government.
The cleric argued that leadership should be judged by its impact on citizens, stating that if an administration is unable to improve the lives of the people, it should make way for others with better ideas and capacity.
While he stopped short of demanding Tinubu’s resignation, Oritsejafor urged the president to reflect on his performance and reconsider plans for a second term.
He also backed recent calls by former presidential candidate Peter Obi, who had suggested that Tinubu should step aside to allow a new direction for the country.

Speaking on elections, the former CAN leader raised concerns about public confidence in the electoral system, claiming that many Nigerians have lost faith in the process and believe some outcomes do not represent the true choice of voters.
Oritsejafor maintained that religious leaders have a duty to speak on national matters and hold public officials accountable.
He added that if he had the chance to meet Tinubu, he would advise him to acknowledge the shortcomings of his administration and either avoid another contest or support leaders capable of bringing significant change to Nigeria.
