Ojudu, Wife Vote in Ekiti Guber Poll

Senator Babafemi Ojudu and his wife, Omotola, have cast their votes in the ongoing Ekiti State governorship election, with the ex-lawmaker openly declaring support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

Ojudu, who represented Ekiti Central Senatorial District between 2011 and 2015 and later served as Special Adviser on Political Matters to former President Muhammadu Buhari, said his decision to back Oyebanji was based on the governor’s performance and character.

In a post shared on his verified Facebook page after voting, Ojudu described the democratic process as imperfect but essential for peaceful change and accountability.

“Omotola and I have stepped out today to cast our votes. Democracy is not perfect. It can be slow, frustrating, and at times disappointing,” he wrote.

He added that despite its shortcomings, democracy remains the most reliable system for expressing the will of the people.

“Yet, despite its imperfections, it remains the best system we have devised for peaceful change, accountable leadership, and the expression of the people’s will,” he stated.

The former senator urged citizens to participate actively in the election, stressing the importance of every vote.

“Today, I urge every eligible citizen to go out and perform this important civic duty. The future of our communities and our state cannot be left to chance or to others alone. Every vote matters. Every ballot cast is a statement of hope and a contribution to the future we desire,” he said.

Explaining his choice of candidate, Ojudu said he and his wife voted for Oyebanji, whom he described as competent and committed to development.

“For my part and my wife’s, we are voting for Governor Biodun Oyebanji because I believe he has demonstrated competence, humility, inclusiveness, and a genuine commitment to the development of Ekiti State. In my judgment, he has earned the opportunity to continue the work he has begun,” he wrote.

He also emphasised tolerance for differing political views, urging citizens to maintain peace and respect throughout the electoral process.

“That said, democracy is strengthened not by uniformity of opinion but by respect for differing views. Whatever your political preference, I encourage you to vote according to your conscience, conduct yourself peacefully, and respect the choices of others,” Ojudu added.

He concluded with a prayer for peace and stability in the state and country at large.

“May God heal our land, deepen our democracy, and guide our leaders with wisdom and compassion. May peace prevail before, during, and after this election,” he wrote.
