“I Haven’t Been Rejected By Mexico” – Omokri
Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has denied claims that the Mexican government rejected him, attributing his delayed resumption to Mexico’s hosting of the ongoing World Cup alongside the United States.
Omokri made the clarification on Monday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he dismissed the rejection reports as opposition propaganda.
According to him, Mexico’s attention is currently focused on the tournament, not on diplomatic postings.
“Mexico has not rejected me. Not at all. You should understand that Mexico is right now hosting the World Cup, along with the United States of America, and all of their focus is on that,” he said.
He noted that he wasn’t alone in the delay, revealing that many other Nigerian ambassadors had yet to resume at their stations.
“Most of us ambassadors have not resumed. So, I’m not the only one. A lot of my colleagues are in my situation, but it’s okay. These things happen,” he said.
The former presidential aide further accused the opposition of manufacturing the rejection narrative, insisting that government decisions are guided by facts, not political noise.
“The opposition will always say things like I have been rejected. We do not work on the basis of the opposition. We work on the basis of reality. The reality of it is that we have countries in the world that respect Nigeria, and they’re going to be taking Nigeria’s envoys,” he said.
