Funso Doherty Secures NDC Governorship Ticket for Lagos 2027 Race

Popular politician and businessman, Funso Doherty, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress for the 2027 Lagos State gubernatorial election.

Doherty announced his nomination in a statement shared on his X account on Friday, expressing appreciation to the party leadership for the confidence reposed in him and pledging to work towards a more inclusive and prosperous Lagos.

Accepting the nomination, he said he was honoured by the opportunity to represent the party and lead its campaign ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to him, Lagos residents deserve a government that prioritises inclusiveness and serves the interests of all citizens. He added that the task of building a better Lagos begins immediately.

He further thanked members of the NDC for their support and reaffirmed his commitment to delivering a vision of Lagos that reflects the aspirations of its people.

“The real work begins now. Together, we will build the Lagos that we know is possible. My friends, it’s time – O Ti Ya!” he added.

The announcement was also confirmed by the party’s Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, Theo Abu Agada.

Agada described Doherty as the NDC’s official candidate for the Lagos governorship race and expressed confidence that his emergence would strengthen the party’s chances in the state.

He further predicted that the ruling All Progressives Congress would face a serious challenge in Lagos with Doherty’s candidacy.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, @funsodoherty is the candidate of our great party, the NDC in Lagos State. It is over for the APC in Lagos,” Agada wrote on his X account.
