Ex-NUJ President Commends Security Agencies, Seeks Greater Media-Security Collaboration

Former President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chris Isiguzo, has commended Nigeria’s security agencies for their commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining stability across the country.

Speaking on Thursday at the national security summit organised by the NUJ in Abuja, Isiguzo said the ability to convene such a gathering in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is a testament to the efforts of security personnel working to keep the country safe.

He urged the media to exercise caution, balance and responsibility in reporting security issues, stressing that criticism of security agencies should be constructive and guided by the realities confronting operatives on the frontlines.

According to him, security personnel are individuals working under difficult and complex circumstances and should not be viewed solely through the lens of public scrutiny.

“Security operatives are fathers, uncles, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters who continue to give their best within the circumstances they find themselves,” he said, adding that they deserve encouragement alongside objective assessment of their performance.

Isiguzo also advocated stronger collaboration between the media and security institutions through regular engagements involving heads of security agencies and media executives.

He noted that such interactions would deepen understanding of security challenges, provide journalists with greater insight into operational realities and help ensure more informed reporting.

The former NUJ president maintained that sustained dialogue between both parties would foster mutual trust and enable the public to receive balanced and accurate information on national security matters.
