Adelabu Denies Plan To Dump APC For SDP
The immediate past Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has denied reports that he plans to switch from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
NEWSNGR reports that Adelabu’s position was contained in a statement issued on his behalf by his media aide, Femi Awogboro, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Wednesday.
The clarification followed rumours that surfaced online on Tuesday, alleging that the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria had concluded plans to leave the APC for the SDP.
Reacting to the claim, Adelabu described the report as false, baseless and deliberately fabricated to mislead members of the public.
He maintained that he remained a committed member of the ruling party and had no plan to defect to any other political platform.
“Those behind this rumour should understand that Chief Adelabu remains a committed and loyal member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and no amount of falsehood, propaganda, wishful thinking, or political mischief can alter that reality,” the statement said.
The former minister’s camp said the attempt to link him with a defection agenda was disrespectful and should be condemned by well-meaning Nigerians.
“The attempt to link Chief Adelabu with a non-existent defection agenda is therefore highly disrespectful and should be condemned by all well-meaning members of the public. It is nothing more than a calculated effort to generate media attention and create an artificial political trend where none exists,” the statement added.
Adelabu urged his supporters and members of the APC in Oyo State to disregard the rumour, insisting that he remained focused on his political engagements within the party.
