Tynion, Cloonan, Ennis Bunn & More: The Top Names in Horror Comics Launch New Anthology HELLO DARKNESS

A new horror anthology from Boom! Studios, Hello Darkness, will bring together some of the biggest names in horror comics. Some of the creators will include James Tynion IV, Becky Cloonan, Garth Ennis, and Cullen Bunn, among others. This anthology will also feature a new Something is Killing the Children story, which will be released across several issues.

One of the other creators involved with Hello Darkness include renowned horror author, R. L. Stine, who is best known for his Goosebumps and Fear Street novels. As of late, he has worked on several horror comic projects, including The Graveyard Club and Stuff of Nightmares.

Additional creators included within Hello Darkness are: Francesco Francavilla, Werther Dell’Edera, Brian Azzarello, Vanesa R. Del Rey, John Arcudi, Ryan Sook, Sas Milledge, Sarah Gailey, Liana Kangas, Marguerite Bennett, Michael Conrad, Martin Morazzo, Andy Lanning, Trevor Hairsine, Steve Orlando, Genevieve Valentine, Jude Ellison S. Doyle, Letizia Cadonici, Sarah Andersen, and others.

Scheduled to begin in July, this horror anthology will have a new Something is Killing the Children story that will span the first six issues. Within the first seven, there will be a serialized story from Garth Ennis and Becky Cloonan. According to Boom! Studios, “Everything from primal fears to modern political horrors will be explored in the classic style of Creepy and Eerie and the Contemporary Chills of Black Mirror.” Additionally, readers can expect cover art from Paolo Rivera (mains), Jenny Frison (variants), and guest variant cover artists for every issue in the series.

With Hello Darkness, BOOM! Studios is doing a modern take on classic horror magazines that began serializing in the 1960s. BOOM! is diving into this vintage publication style from a modern lens of storytelling with all-star creators ready to bring back these types of serialized thrills and chills in the comic book style readers love. Instead of one story and a backup, the issues will contain several short horror comics from several of the best minds in the medium today. This series is also opening up venues for new creative partnerships.

Hello Darkness’ creators revealed their thoughts on the upcoming comic anthology. R.L. Stine says, “This brings me back to Tales from the Crypt and the other horror comics I devoured as a kid. I’m so excited to be part of this anthology series designed to make the world a scarier place!” Francesco Francavilla also revealed his excitement about working with Stine:

Regarding the upcoming Something is Killing the Children story, James Tynion IV says, “My whole careers started writing comic short, so it’s very exciting to bring it all around full circle and tell a SIKTC story in that format. The story Werther and I are going to be telling here is one that’s been in the back of my mind for almost five years, and I’m thrilled we finally have the perfect platform to bring that story to readers.

Hello Darkness #1 will be available on July 24 from BOOM! Studios.
