The Gentlemen star Kaya Scodelario has suggested a key change for season 2 of the series, which could alter the dynamics of the story moving forward. The England-set show focuses on Eddie Horniman (Theo James), the new Duke of Halstead who inherits his father’s partnership with the Glass family’s weed empire. He begins working together with Susie Glass (Scodelario) to expand the business, eventually deciding to stick with it despite initially wanting to leave.
Speaking with Collider, Scodelario revealed she wants The Gentlemen season 2 to take its story beyond the UK, sending Eddie and Susie to a different country for a new adventure. The Gentlemen season 1 ended with Susie’s father, Bobby Glass (Ray Winstone), giving Eddie and Susie more control over his business, hoping the pair will inherit it once he retires. He expressly trusts them to have a more hands-on role in his drug empire going forward. This sets the stage for their heightened level of involvement in season 2, doing more than just making business dealings with potential partners or competitors. Their efforts also indicate the weed empire could easily expand over time, which opens the door for a possible overseas adventure in future episodes.
The easiest way for the show to expand would be exploring nearby countries as possible locations for new growth or distribution channels. This could be as simple as crossing the border into Ireland, or going overseas to a nearby European country, like Spain or France. It’s also possible the pair would want to expand further into somewhere like the United States, giving their operations a stronger foothold in the global drug market. However, with new locations comes new danger, which would heighten the unpredictability of what the pair would face in future episodes.
Although The Gentlemen season 2 has yet to be confirmed as of writing, Scodelario’s comments indicate just how much potential a follow-up season would have, especially if it went beyond the boundaries of its season 1 setting. The character dynamics between Eddie and Susie also still have plenty of directions they can go, made stronger by the pair’s new leadership positions. Thanks to where season 1 left them, there’s plenty of opportunity for an expansion of operations, leading to some unexpected overseas results.
