Swamp Thing's 90s TV Show Returns in Nostalgic Cosplay

Swamp Thing was one of DC’s first ever multimedia stars, and his 90s TV show look returns in an awesome new piece of cosplay. For over 50 years, Swamp Thing has shambled through the forests and jungles of the DC Universe. He has become a cult icon, starring in movies and television shows. Now, cosplayer knightmage100 has crafted the perfect tribute to Swamp Thing’s early 90’s look.

Knightmage100 revealed their awesome Swamp Thing cosplay in a post on Instagram. The shoot, consisting of four photos, shows knightmage100 wearing an outfit similar to Swamp Thing’s appearance in his 1990s television show. The first image features Swamp Thing standing in a creek, lumbering towards the camera. The next two photos feature Swamp Thing holding an unconscious Abigail Arcane in his hands.

The shoot’s final photo shows Swamp Thing and Abigail sharing a tender moment in the forest.

Although Swamp Thing was far from DC’s first multimedia sensation, he has achieved a level of mainstream recognition denied to his contemporaries. This has been largely thanks to two movies and a handful of television shows that brought Swamp Thing to the masses. Swamp Thing made his live action debut in a 1982 film directed by horror maestro Wes Craven. Swamp Thing was played by stuntman Dick Durock. A sequel, released in 1989, was the inspiration for a television show. Durock reprises the role for the series, which aired on the USA Network from 1990 to 1993.

Swamp Thing became one of USA’s top-rated shows, despite taking a pummeling from critics. They criticized the show for being campy with terrible acting and production values. While the critics may not have liked Swamp Thing, it still connected with fans. The show did not completely utilize Swamp Thing’s deep lore, but still featured Doctor Anton Arcane as well as his Un-Men, showing a commitment to engaging with the source material. Dick Durock’s portrayal of Swamp Thing resonated, and tributes to the actor have found their way into other media featuring the character.

And now knightmage100 pays the ultimate tribute to Dick Durock and Swamp Thing in their spectacular cosplay. Knightmage100 has managed to nail the look while also adding touches of their own. The appearance of Abigail Arcane is most welcome as well, showing a reverence for the source material–just like the 1990s television show. Although it is largely forgotten today, it still managed to introduce Swamp Thing to a generation of fans. Durock’s portrayal cut right into the character’s nature, and now knightmage100 pays tribute in an awesome cosplay.
