Now You See Me 3 has officially added its first new cast members. The Now You See Me franchise first began in 2013, and starred Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, and Woody Harrelson, with the plot focused on an FBI agent and Interpol detective tracking a group of magicians who pull off improbable bank heists using complex illusions. It became a box office success, grossing more than $300 million worldwide, and spawned a 2016 sequel, Now You See Me 2. After years of fits and starts, a third movie has officially been confirmed.
Following the announcement at CinemaCon that Now You See Me 3 will reunite the original cast, Lionsgate has revealed the first new stars to join the upcoming movie. Ariana Greenblatt (Barbie, Ahsoka), Justice Smith (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves), and Dominic Sessa (The Holdovers) have all been cast in undisclosed roles. Ruben Fleischer will direct the movie, which is currently keeping its plot details under wraps.
It is currently unclear when Now You See Me 3 might hit theaters, but Eisenberg recently stated that he believes filming could begin in the next six months. There are rumors that the movie could function as a soft reboot, but fan theories suggest there could be a continuation from the end of the second movie where The Horsemen learn the secrets of The Eye. While there is no complete confirmed cast list yet, here are some of the cast members who are expected to be in the movie, according to Lionsgate, as well as others who could return:
At this point, it seems clear that the core cast are the most likely to return for a third movie, aside from Michael Caine, who has since retired from acting. Greenblatt will be a young and fresh addition to the franchise, and having enjoyed a successful 2023 as part of the cast of Barbie and the Disney+ series Ahsoka. She is set to have another strong year in 2024 with a role in the upcoming Borderlands movie. Sessa is similarly coming off a buzzy project, having broken out in the awards contender The Holdovers.
The time of the sequel is in full swing in Hollywood right now, and this could mean the market is right for a Now You See Me follow-up. More details are likely to emerge as the project moves further along, and there is a feeling that Lionsgate will be keen to get Now You See Me 3 out as soon as possible, eager to add to the franchise’s existing $687 million box office. This could also boost interest in the franchise, and it could find a second life on streaming in the future.
