The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has revealed the suspension of permits for three private jet operators over suspected engagement in commercial flight activities. Chris Najomo, the Acting Director General of the NCAA, delivered this announcement during a stern address to all airlines on Tuesday.
In a video clip capturing the moment Najomo delivered his address, he can be seen reading the riot act, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. He further directed a re-evaluation of all Private Non-Commercial Flight (PNCF) permits within a 72-hour timeframe.
Recalling an earlier warning issued by the NCAA on January 24, 2024, Najomo reiterated the agency’s stance against private jet owners operating commercial services without adhering to proper compliance standards, hinting at potential license revocations.
This announcement followed closely after a private jet experienced a crash landing near the Ibadan airport while departing from the Federal Capital Territory. The National Safety Investigation Bureau criticized Flints Aero Services Limited, the operator involved, for conducting a non-commercial flight despite holding a permit.
Emphasizing the necessity for private jet operators to obtain commercial licenses for charter or commercial operations, Najomo underscored the regulatory framework. He clarified that only holders of an Air Transport License and airline operating permit, coupled with a valid air operator certificate, are authorized to conduct charter operations.
