Viral video: Ogun CP vows justice as four officers arrested for assaulting man in Ota

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, has assured residents of Ogun State that the Command will not compromise on professional standards following the viral video of police officers molesting a young man in Ijagba, Ota.
Ojajuni gave the assurance as the command announced the apprehension of four officers captured in the video, which has continued to generate outrage on social media.
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command said it has commenced a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident.
“The Ogun State Police Command has commenced an investigation into a video circulating on social media showing police officers in the company of a civilian in the Ijagba-Ota area of Ogun State,” Babaseyi said.
“In a prompt response, the four officers involved have been apprehended, while disciplinary procedures have been initiated to establish the facts and determine the appropriate action.”
According to the statement, CP Ojajuni has directed that the investigation be guided by evidence and due process, assuring that any proven misconduct will be dealt with in accordance with established regulations.
He emphasised that accountability and public trust remain integral to effective policing in the state.
Recall that the video, which showed a young man pinned to the ground in handcuffs for allegedly wearing camouflage shorts, had sparked anger, with residents confronting the officers and forcing them to abandon the arrest.
The command appreciated members of the public for bringing the video to its attention and urged anyone with credible information to cooperate with investigators, while cautioning against speculation capable of prejudicing the probe.
“The Command remains committed to addressing legitimate concerns, enforcing professional standards and protecting lives and property across the State,” Babaseyi added.
