Sowore, Bashir Ahmad React to Killing of 162 Residents by Terrorists in Kwara

Activist Omoyele Sowore and Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, have condemned the killing of at least 162 residents of Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

In separate statements shared on X on Wednesday, Sowore and Ahmad described the attack as horrific and unacceptable.

Sowore alleged that the victims were killed during a bloody assault carried out by a terrorist group identified by locals as “Memuda.”

He accused security agencies of failing to respond to distress calls or provide protection, despite warnings allegedly issued by community members ahead of the attack.

According to Sowore, sources in the community disclosed that the village head had earlier alerted security authorities after the group reportedly told residents they were coming to “preach.” He claimed that no preventive deployment was made, leaving the community vulnerable when the attackers eventually struck.

Reacting separately, Ahmad described the killings as “beyond any form of comprehension,” adding that no words of condemnation could adequately reflect the magnitude of the tragedy.

“The perpetrators of this heinous act cannot be described in any human terms,” Ahmad said.

“I hope that when our authorities eventually capture them, justice will be served in full measure and they will face consequences commensurate with the gravity of their crimes,” he added.

The Kwara State Government has since confirmed the attack, which reportedly claimed the lives of at least 162 persons on Tuesday.

In response, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the deployment of military personnel to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
