“If she wasn’t…” – Lady sparks backlash after questioning men’s double standards in relationships

A Nigerian lady has sparked reactions online after questioning why some men get upset when she asks for financial support in a relationship.
In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by @dammiedammie35, she argued that many men initially choose a woman because of her beauty, so why is it wrong for a lady to expect financial contribution?
“I just want to pose a question to you guys. When you see a lady and you’re like, oh my God, she’s so beautiful, and you wouldn’t have asked her out if she wasn’t beautiful, why are you now angry that the person is coming to you for money?” she asked.
The discussion highlights what she described as a common double standard.
According to her, men often pursue women based on physical attraction, yet get offended when women seek security or financial support in return.
She also stressed that attraction alone cannot sustain a relationship and that clear expectations should not be treated as a crime.
“You see a beautiful lady, she’s well endowed, then why you angry when she comes for financial gain, when you know you only ask her out because you’re beautiful?” she added.
Her comments have continued to stir debate online, with social media users sharing mixed opinions.
One user commented, “She actually has a point. Men come for beauty, women come for stability. Let’s stop pretending.” Another wrote, “If money is the only thing keeping a relationship, then it’s not love.”
