‘We Feel Betrayed’ — Kano NNPP Speaks on Gov Yusuf’s Defection to APC

The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State has expressed shock and disappointment over the defection of Governor Abba Yusuf to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking in an interview on Monday, the party’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Karaye, said NNPP members felt devastated and betrayed by the governor’s decision.
According to a report by Politics Nigeria, Governor Yusuf officially rejoined the APC on Monday, days after resigning from the NNPP on Friday.
Reacting to the development, Karaye said the party was deeply hurt but remained confident in its strength and relevance in Kano State.
“We are really devastated. We feel betrayed, and we are not happy with this development. However, NNPP is still strong and remains the party to beat in Kano.
“From the time the governor began planning to leave, all major stakeholders were aware of his moves,” he said.
Karaye added that the party exercised patience until Yusuf’s resignation became official.
“In politics, decisions are not taken in isolation. The other party also has the right to respond. We waited until last Friday when he formally resigned from NNPP,” he explained.
He further noted that the party expected the governor to move to what he described as a more progressive platform, especially given Yusuf’s claim that internal crises informed his exit.
“There is no political party in Nigeria without internal challenges. Even the APC he has joined here in Kano is riddled with crises and issues. That is simply the nature of politics,” Karaye said.
