Toyin Abraham Makes Nollywood History as ‘Oversabi Aunty’ Rakes in Over ₦1 Billion

Toyin Abraham, Nollywood actress and filmmaker has achieved a historic feat with her directorial debut, Oversabi Aunty, which has now earned over ₦1 billion at Nigerian cinemas.

FilmOne Entertainment, the film’s distributor, announced the milestone on Monday through its official X handle, revealing that the movie has accumulated ₦1,017,201,953 in box office revenue.

Celebrating the accomplishment, FilmOne posted: “₦1 Billion+ at the box office. First Nollywood directorial debut to hit ₦1 Billion. 4th-highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time. West Africa, this is a full celebration!!!”

Abraham responded to the news on Instagram with heartfelt appreciation. “My first directorial debut on the big screen. Oversabi Aunty to the world and still showing in cinemas near you. Thank you, God. Thank you, Toyintitans. Thank you, Nigerians. Thanks to my cast. Thanks to my crew. Thank you, FilmOne. Thank you, everyone. I’m short of words,” she shared.

Launched in December 2025, Oversabi Aunty follows an overly enthusiastic church usher whose meddling in family affairs sets off a chain of hilarious mishaps. The comedy features notable actors including Mike Ezuruonye and Odunlade Adekola, and has resonated with audiences for its humorous take on familiar cultural dynamics.

FilmOne also shared that Funke Akindele’s Behind The Scenes has earned ₦2.4 billion, claiming the title of Nigeria’s highest-grossing film this year. Released in December 2025, it became Nollywood’s first ₦2 billion movie, wrapping its theatrical run at approximately ₦2.103 billion within roughly a month.

Abraham’s success places her among Nigeria’s top-earning filmmakers, while Akindele reinforces her dominance as Nollywood’s box-office leader. Akindele now has three billion-naira films—Behind The Scenes, Everybody Loves Jenifa, and A Tribe Called Judah—with combined earnings of about ₦5.39 billion.

Akindele has topped the African box office for three straight years, from 2023 through 2025.
