Sokoto Senator Defects from ADC to PDP

Abubakar Gada, Former Sokoto East Senator has left the All Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition and rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing structural weaknesses and leadership deficiencies within the coalition movement.

Gada, who served in the Senate from 2007 to 2011 under the PDP before joining the ADC in 2025, announced his decision following consultative meetings in Sokoto. He stated his intention to help “reclaim and rebuild” the PDP in the state.

The former lawmaker acknowledged his significant contributions to establishing the ADC coalition in Sokoto state, including bringing Northwest coalition representative Nasiru El-Rufa’i to engage with local political stakeholders. He utilized social media and modern communication channels to broaden the movement’s reach and participation.

However, Gada explained that recent developments exposed critical flaws within the coalition, including insufficient cohesion, unclear strategic direction, and inadequate commitment from key leadership figures. After consulting with political associates, stakeholders, and grassroots representatives, he concluded that the PDP offered a more organized and credible platform for advancing the state’s interests.

“The PDP is more structured, credible, and people-oriented for advancing the collective aspirations of Sokoto state,” Gada stated, emphasizing his commitment to inclusive leadership and good governance.

Gada assured Sokoto residents of his dedication to grassroots empowerment and sustainable development through the PDP platform.

Several participants at the consultative meeting, including Hamza Gatawa, Maryam Gade, and Tambari Tambuwal, commended Gada’s decision and his efforts toward building a viable political movement.
