George Moghalu, ex Anambra guber candidate resigns from LP

George Moghalu, the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in the 2025 Anambra election, has formally resigned his membership of the party.

The former managing director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) announced his decision in a letter dated January 26, 2026.

Moghalu addressed the letter to the LP chairman of Uruagu Ward in Nnewi, Anambra state.

He expressed appreciation to the party at ward, state, and national levels for providing him the platform to contest the November 2025 off-cycle governorship election.

“I bring you the good wishes of my family and write to formally inform you of my resignation from the Labour Party, effective January 26, 2026,” the letter reads.

“Let me also thank the party, through you, for providing me the opportunity to use the Labour Party platform to contest the last governorship election of our state.”

Moghalu asked the chairman to convey his regards to other party members.

He did not indicate which political platform he would join next.

His resignation comes after he rejected the outcome of the November 8, 2025 Anambra governorship election.
