Former Ondo State Deputy Governor and 2024 People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Chief Agboola Ajayi, has outlined reasons for his return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing his desire to actively contribute to the party’s development initiatives.

Ajayi was officially welcomed back to the ruling party during a ceremony in Igbekebo, Ese-Odo Local Government Area, where he addressed party leaders and supporters.

The politician explained that his return would enable him to fully support Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s EASE agenda and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope initiative.

“I was previously a member of APC and served as deputy governor under the party. There were disagreements that led to my departure, but I’m now back completely,” Ajayi stated.

Drawing parallels with international politics, he referenced the reconciliation between Kenyan leaders Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta, who put aside their differences for national interest.

“Governor Aiyedatiwa and I have engaged in dialogue. During campaigns, blackmail and propaganda are inevitable, but we’ve recognized that the bigger picture matters more,” he said.

Ajayi commended President Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing them as establishing a solid foundation for Nigeria’s future. He expressed confidence that the policies would create lasting positive change for the country.

“No future president can reverse these transformative policies. I believe with our collective support, President Tinubu will significantly improve Nigeria during his tenure,” he added.

Babatunde Kolawole, Special Adviser to Governor Aiyedatiwa on Legislative and Party Affairs, represented the governor at the event and described Ajayi’s return as a significant boost for APC.

“His Excellency has officially joined us to support the developmental achievements of Governor Aiyedatiwa. With this addition, Ondo State is effectively a one-party state, making our target of one million votes in 2027 achievable,” Kolawole said.

APC State Chairman, Engineer Ade Adetimehin, praised Ajayi as a grassroots politician with deep knowledge of Ondo State’s political landscape.

“Agboola Ajayi is a political bulldozer who understands every corner of Ondo State. His return strengthens our party significantly. We worked together to install late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, and now all former state governors are in APC,” Adetimehin noted.

He emphasized that Ajayi’s membership would help build synergy within the party and support President Tinubu’s second-term ambitions, adding that Nigeria’s economy has shown signs of improvement under the current administration.
