FG commends Funke Akindele after box office milestone

The Federal Government has lauded Nollywood actress and producer Funke Akindele for her latest film, Behind the Scenes, which has shattered box office records.
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) called the achievement a testament to the rising global recognition of Nigerian cinema and a major boost for the country’s creative industry.

Behind the Scenes recently surpassed ₦2.1 billion at the Nigerian box office, making it the first Nollywood production to cross the ₦2 billion mark.
The movie has also performed well internationally, earning over $111,000 in Canada and $190,000 across North America.
“From Lagos to Toronto, from cinemas in Abuja to theatres overseas — this movie had everyone locked in,” the NOA stated, celebrating Akindele’s accomplishment.

The agency also highlighted that Akindele has now become the first filmmaker to top the African box office for three consecutive years.
