APC Rejects Claims of Shettima’s Removal from 2027 Presidential Ticket

The All Progressives Congress has categorically denied reports suggesting Vice President Kashim Shettima could be dropped as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate in the 2027 elections, calling such claims baseless and unfounded.

The ruling party’s statement follows widespread speculation about a potential review of the Muslim-Muslim ticket that delivered victory in 2023.

Over the weekend, Minister of Culture and Creative Economy Hannatu Musawa cautioned against abandoning the current ticket, warning of significant political consequences in northern Nigeria.

“Excluding a Hausa, Fulani, or Kanuri Muslim from the ticket would create substantial obstacles given how voters think,” Musawa explained, emphasizing that identity politics and representation remain central to northern electoral behavior.

She highlighted the political sophistication of core northern states including Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Kebbi, Jigawa, Zamfara, and Sokoto, where voting is deeply ingrained in civic life.

“Altering our current arrangement would be problematic. Those suggesting otherwise may not fully grasp northern political realities,” Musawa stated.

In an official statement, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka addressed what he termed a “growing media frenzy” around alleged plans to replace the vice president, particularly recent reports naming potential successors.

“These stories are purely speculative, untrue, and utterly baseless,” Morka declared, urging media outlets to reject unverified reports designed to sow division.

The party emphasized that current laws and electoral regulations prohibit political campaigning, making succession discussions premature.

“Our focus remains on supporting President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in implementing the Renewed Hope Agenda and advancing reforms that are transforming Nigeria’s economy and improving citizens’ lives,” the APC stated.

The party also called on ministers and senior officials to avoid statements that fuel unnecessary speculation, urging them to concentrate on governance and supporting President Tinubu’s leadership.
