Wike reveals those persuading Jonathan to contest for 2027 presidency
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has advised former president Goodluck Jonathan against any plan to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Wike while speaking during his monthly media chat with select journalists advised the former president to stay away from Nigerian politics and focus on enjoying his current position as an elder statesman.
Reviewing calls by several politicians and political groups calling on Jonathan to contest the nation’s next presidential election, Wike said Jonathan enjoys the international recognition he is getting.
He said, “I know Jonathan very well. He enjoys being respected internationally as a statesman and I believe he will continue in that role.”
Wike added that most of the people persuading Jonathan to run for presidential race are the same set of people who worked against his re-election bid in 2015.
He asked, “People pushing Jonathan — what strength do they have? Were they not the same people who worked against him in 2015?”
“For Christ’s sake, nobody should create problems for the party. When you cause problems, you are the one to blame,” Wike stated.
