Tudun-Wada Traders Allege Assault by Local Government Chairperson, Demand Justice
Several small-scale business owners in Tudun-Wada Local Government Area were reportedly injured on Thursday during a violent confrontation with a group allegedly led by the Local Government Chairperson, Hajiya Sa’adatu Salisu Soja, sparking outrage across the community.
The clash occurred during a meeting where traders had gathered to discuss grievances over local government policies they claim have undermined their livelihoods.
The controversy reportedly stemmed from the demolition of several small businesses by the local council to make way for a drainage system. Traders who returned to the area after the completion of the project were allegedly attacked, triggering the violent encounter.
Sani Sale Tudun-Wada, a local business owner and victim of the attack, recounted the incident, saying, “We were simply trying to voice our concerns and seek help. Instead, we were met with violence. It’s unacceptable for our local leaders to treat us this way.”
Eyewitnesses said the Chairperson arrived at the scene with a group of men, allegedly thugs, who used physical force to intimidate and assault the traders.
The incident has drawn strong reactions from community leaders and advocacy groups, who are calling for urgent intervention.
A local activist, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “This is not just about the injuries sustained; it’s about the right of every citizen to voice their concerns without fear of violence.”
Despite the attack, traders in Tudun-Wada remain steadfast in demanding justice and reforms that protect their businesses and livelihoods.
The matter has been formally reported to the Kano State Police Command for investigation. Efforts to obtain a comment from the Tudun-Wada Local Government Chairperson on the allegations were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered.
