Tinubu Faces Fresh Challenge as Northern Politician Pledges to Slash One Million Votes
Former Zamfara Central senator and ex-chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kabiru Marafa, has vowed to reduce President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s support base by one million votes in the 2027 general elections.
Marafa, who recently announced his resignation from the ruling party, made the declaration during a Channels Television interview on Monday night.
“I want to tell you something today, I am going to deduct one million votes from Mr President’s votes that he got in 2023. Mark my word, I’m going to do it, I’m going to work for it,” he said.
The former lawmaker accused Tinubu of using and subsequently sidelining key northern political figures including himself, former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje. He also faulted what he described as the marginalisation of Zamfara State in federal appointments.
Marafa argued that while other North-West states secured multiple ministerial positions, Zamfara received only one slot, despite being one of just two states in the zone delivered by the APC during the 2023 presidential election.
Confirming his resignation from the APC on Sunday, Marafa, who served as the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Coordinator in Zamfara during the last election, said his decision was borne out of disenchantment with the party’s treatment of his home state.
