Stop blaming FG, tackle banditry in Zamfara – APC replies Gov Lawal

The Zamfara chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised Governor Dauda Lawal over his comments on the security situation in the state.

Yusuf Idris, APC publicity secretary in the state, in a statement on Thursday in Gusau, described the governor’s remarks as “uncalled for”.

Idris said: “It is unfortunate for the governor and chief security officer of the state to be saying that he is aware of the movement of every bandit’ kingpin and his gang operating in the state.

“Very unfortunately, the governor refused to give an intelligence report to the security agencies fighting the bandits day and night.

“The APC, as a party, we don’t know why the governor continues to overlook the issue of insecurity, giving bandits the chance to continue killing and abducting innocent citizens.”

Idris accused the governor of “exposing his involvement with bandits” by admitting he knows their camps and movements but has not taken proactive measures.

He added that Lawal’s claim that he could end banditry within two weeks if given the authority shows “his government’s failure to protect lives and property in Zamfara”.

The APC said the governor had not made efforts to partner with the federal government in addressing insecurity in the state.

“We noticed that several times, the governor always condemns the federal government under the APC,” Idris said.

The opposition party asked Lawal to emulate Bello Matawalle, former governor of the state, whom they credited with providing operational vehicles and logistics support to security agencies.

“The APC calls on Lawal to concentrate on delivering his campaign promises of ending banditry in two months and stop apportioning blame on anybody,” the statement added.
