‘Over 300 displaced, 30 houses razed’ as gunmen attack Plateau communities

Gunmen have reportedly displaced more than 300 people and set fire to at least 30 houses in Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The attacks, which took place in late August across 10 communities in Doemak district, left many residents homeless after farmlands and properties were destroyed on the eve of the harvest season.

The affected villages include Nteng, Doop, Zhep Morop, Gyeergu, Kelaghan, Loon, Kwakii, and Gorom.

In a statement on Tuesday, Christopher Manship, executive chairman of Qua’an-Pan LGA, called for unity and collective action against the violence.

“I urge our traditional rulers, religious leaders and development associations to join hands with us in condemning these attacks and working towards a permanent solution,” the statement reads.

He explained that security operatives have been deployed to the affected areas, while his administration is “working tirelessly to restore peace and normalcy”.

Manship further appealed to security agencies and vigilante groups to remain vigilant and united in efforts to restore calm.

He also visited the affected villages, where he assured displaced residents of his administration’s commitment to their safe return.

Cornelius Doeyok, Plateau State commissioner for culture and tourism, praised Manship for rallying stakeholders in response to the recurring attacks in the state.
