Official: Victor Boniface joins Werder Bremen from Bayer Leverkusen
Super Eagles and Bayer 04 Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface has joined Bundesliga side Werder Bremen on a season-long loan, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 24-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements by Erik Ten Hag, and opted for a move away from the Bay Arena, but an attempt fell through in Milan as issues in his right knee made the Italians refrain from signing Boniface.
In an ironic turn of events, Leverkusen fired Ten Hag after just three games in charge, and whilst that has sparked mixed reactions, many expected Boniface to be one of the beneficiaries of the decision made by the Bayer hierarchy.

However, it didn’t turn out so. The 2023/2024 Bundesliga Rookie of the season has now put pen to paper with four-time German Champions Werder Bremen.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Boniface has passed his medical at the Weserstadion and will kick-off action with the rest of his teammates after the International Break as he missed out on Eric Chelle’s 23-man squad for Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers games against Rwanda and South Africa.

According to Buchi Laba, Horst Steffen’s side first made contact with Leverkusen about Boniface yesterday evening, and the striker affirmed the move this morning.
The former Union Saint-Gilloise striker now joins a Werder side that are without a win in their last seven games across all competitions. They’ll cover some parts of his salary during his loan tenure.

Boniface will now team up with fellow Super Eagles compatriot, Felix Agu. Other Nigeria-eligible stars in Bremen include Isaac Schmidt, Wesley Adeh, and Justin Njinmah.
