NDLEA Seizes 8,000 Bottles of Drug-Laced Herbal Mixture Akuskura, Cannabis in Kano

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano have intercepted a consignment of 8,000 bottles of Akuskura, a herbal mixture suspected to contain illicit substances, along with 48 blocks of cannabis sativa, the agency said on Monday.

A 37-year-old man, identified as Ali Muhammad, was arrested in connection with the seizure, according to a statement signed by Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics and Public Relations Officer of the NDLEA Kano State Strategic Command.

The interception occurred at Gadar Tamburawa, along the Zaria–Kano highway, after operatives stopped a trailer transporting tricycles from Lagos to Maiduguri.

The drugs were concealed between the tricycles and beneath the trailer using a wooden cover, the agency said.

“This interception was made possible through the diligence and commitment of our operatives, who discovered the concealment,” Maigatari said in the statement.

He added that the seized items and the suspect are now in custody, pending further investigation and laboratory analysis to determine the exact nature of the substances.

The Commander of the Kano State Strategic Command, ACGN A.I. Ahmad, praised the support of the agency’s national leadership.

“The continued backing of the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), has enabled frontline commands to act decisively in curbing the spread of illicit drugs,” Ahmad said.

The NDLEA urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious consignments or activities to the nearest NDLEA office or law enforcement agency.
