Labour Party No Longer Exists – Obi’s Former Spokesperson Kenneth Okonkwo

Former spokesperson of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, Kenneth Okonkwo, has said that the Labour Party has ceased to exist as a political force in the country.

Okonkwo, who spoke during an interview on Channels Television on Friday, argued that the party now survives only on paper and no longer commands the influence to make an impact in future elections.

“There is nothing like Labour Party existing anywhere except on paper,” he said, stressing that democracy is about numbers and majority consensus. “Any politician who chooses to remain alone in a political party is as dead as that party.”

The Nollywood actor-turned-politician resigned from the party in June 2024, citing frustrations over its inability to provide visionary leadership or resolve its leadership crisis after the 2023 general elections. He had also accused the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of failing to unify its fractured ranks following his defeat to President Bola Tinubu.

Since leaving the Labour Party, Okonkwo has aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and pledged to support a strong northern candidate against Tinubu in the 2027 presidential race.
