JUST IN: Peter Obi Mourns Former IGP Solomon Arase
Former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has expressed grief over the death of former Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Solomon Arase.
In a statement on Monday, Obi described the late police chief as a patriotic Nigerian who served the nation with dedication, discipline, and a strong sense of duty.
He said Arase’s contributions to policing and security reforms would remain commendable and impactful.
“I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of former Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Solomon Arase.
He served our nation with dedication, bringing to his office a sense of duty, discipline, and patriotism. His contributions to policing and security reforms remain commendable,” Obi stated.
Reflecting on his personal interactions with the late IGP, Obi recalled attending the public presentation of Arase’s two books earlier this year, noting that the works reflected his intellect, deep reflections on national security, and commitment to institutional strengthening.
He added that only a few weeks ago, he spoke with Arase, who, in his usual manner, expressed optimism that Nigeria would rise again.
According to Obi, this enduring hope and faith in the country defined Arase’s outlook on life and service.
“At this difficult time, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and the Nigeria Police Force. May God grant him eternal rest, and give all who mourn him the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss,” Obi prayed.
