FRSC mourns Phyna’s sister killed by Dangote truck, reveals next action

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has expressed sadness over the death of Ruth Otabor, a victim of the August 11 crash involving a Dangote truck and a commercial motorcycle near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo state.

The accident occurred around 10:30 am at the institution’s sports complex. Despite medical intervention, Otabor later died from her injuries.

In a statement issued on Monday, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed condoled with the deceased’s family, the students’ union, and the Auchi Polytechnic community.

Mohammed described the incident as “most regrettable” and prayed for the repose of her soul.

The FRSC said it had since taken steps to prevent a recurrence by engaging key stakeholders.

The corps convened a meeting with the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to address concerns and provide updates on its road safety interventions.

The agency added that it has strengthened collaboration with fleet operators such as Dangote, BUA, and other heavy truck companies through structured training and driver recertification programmes.

“The corps remains committed to creating safer road environments across Nigeria. This tragic incident serves as a sober reminder of the need for collective responsibility,” Mohammed said.

The statement added that FRSC will continue to intensify enforcement, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement to prevent future crashes.
