Ex-President Jonathan Pays Condolence Visit to Late Arase’s Family
Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday night visited the family of late Solomon Arase in Abuja to commiserate with them over his passing.
Arase, Nigeria’s 18th Inspector-General of Police, died on Sunday at Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja. He was 68.
Until his death, Arase had a distinguished career in the Nigerian Police Force. Before his appointment as IGP, he headed the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau, the intelligence arm of the force. He served as Inspector-General from April 2015 until his retirement in June 2016.
Born on June 21, 1956, in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State, Arase studied Political Science at Ahmadu Bello University, graduating in 1980, before joining the police force in December 1981.
After his retirement, he was appointed Chairman of the Police Service Commission in January 2023 by then-President Muhammadu Buhari. However, in June 2024, he was relieved of the position by President Bola Tinubu.
