Ex-INEC Commissioner Nura Ali Dangwauro Dies 24 Hours After Facebook Post

Dr. Nura Ali Dangwauro, former Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Sokoto State during the 2023 general elections, has died barely a day after posting a farewell message on Facebook.

Dangwauro, who was also a lecturer in the Department of Economics at the Federal University Dutse, Jigawa State, died on Friday at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital after a brief illness, family sources confirmed.

On Thursday, the academic announced his temporary withdrawal from social media in what has now been described as a farewell note.

“Following a thorough process of expression and a careful review of relevant literature, along with gaining deep knowledge and insight, I must temporarily disconnect from this online forum for an extended and uncertain period, starting now,” Dangwauro wrote in his last post.

He expressed gratitude to friends and colleagues, saying: “As I begin this break, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone with whom I have enjoyed thoughtful discussions and meaningful interactions. I also sincerely apologize for any mistakes or unintended offenses I may have caused during my time here.”

Dangwauro, who served INEC during a crucial election period, added that his time online had given him invaluable lessons.

“My participation in this forum has exposed me to a variety of viewpoints, ideas, and experiences, all of which have helped me grow personally and intellectually. The knowledge I’ve gained is invaluable, and I believe it will continue to influence my thoughts and actions moving forward,” he said.

In his closing words, he wrote: “As I say goodbye to this community, I do so filled with gratitude for the time we’ve shared. I hope that the connections I’ve built will last, even as I take this temporary leave.”
