Critics dragging Obi’s name are only seeking attention — Obidient Movement

The Obidient Movement has reiterated that critics dragging the name of the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, are only seeking desperate attention.

The National Coordinator of the movement, Dr Yunusa Tanko, stated this in a press release issued on Tuesday in Abuja.

Tanko explained that Obi has always maintained a principled stance against personal attacks.

“In the case of Dele Farotimi, he merely raised concerns about the circumstances of his arrest and detention—a point that was clearly understood by the elder statesman,” Tanko said.

He stressed that Obi does not indulge in financial inducements. “It is well known that Obi does not gratify or entice people with money.

Instead, he channels resources into education, youth entrepreneurship, healthcare, the almajiri system, and support for the poor, the sick, and the neglected in society. His focus has always been on lifting people out of poverty, not patronage politics,” the statement read.

Tanko clarified that Obi’s intervention during discussions with Babalola should not be misrepresented. “On 9 December 2024, I was part of the team that paid a courtesy visit to Afe Babalola.

The defamation case against Farotimi was later withdrawn through the intervention of the Ooni of Ife—not because Obi ‘begged’, as falsely claimed.

That narrative is a deliberate lie. I am glad that Mr IK Aboyi, who witnessed the meeting, has already set the records straight,” he stated.

On the controversial “Yes, Daddy” audio, Tanko said Obi reserved his legal options like any responsible leader but chose not to waste years in court, which should not be mistaken for guilt.

He also dismissed allegations linking Obi to a WhatsApp broadcast against Lagos, insisting that there was no credible evidence.

“The same paid agents keep recycling lies without a shred of proof. Propaganda thrives on falsehoods because the truth exposes their failures.

“These individuals parade themselves with all manner of titles, but in reality, they are failed propagandists desperate for relevance.

“Their words carry no weight among Nigerians who are tired of deceit, corruption, and manipulation. Dragging Obi’s name is only a ploy to gain attention,” Tanko declared.

He added that the Obidient Movement would continue to stand for truth over propaganda, service over selfishness, and facts over fabrications.
