Anambra electoral commission fixes date for council elections
The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (AnSIEC) has scheduled August 29, 2026, for local government chairmanship and councillorship elections.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Wednesday in Awka by the commission’s chairperson, Mrs Genevieve Osakwe.
She explained that the decision was in line with Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, and Section 23 of the Anambra State Electoral Law, 2024, which empower the commission to issue election notices.
According to her, the election timetable and schedule of activities will be available for collection at the commission’s office from Friday, November 28, 2025.
“We call on all political parties to begin obtaining their nomination forms from the commission’s office along the Enugu–Awka Expressway,” Osakwe said.
This newspaper reports that AnSIEC last conducted local government elections in September 2024.
